saluton

I believe 'Saluton' means 'Hello' in Esperanto - the nearest I could find to 'Greetings'.

I like the concept of a constructed international language designed to foster peace and international understanding.

Keeping up with it

Sometimes I can get so bogged down in the minutiae that I can't see the whole picture. And I obviously got very bogged down in June, July and most of August.

But I am experimenting with working for hour blocks to see if that makes 'to dos' more achievable. Eventually I'd like my body clock to take over and not need bells, whistles or reminders on the hour.

Don't know how long I can keep this up really.

social, socially, socially engaged

Brief, temporary, hang on a minute, a day in the life of, a weekend, every week, durational.

There's a continuum to everything so isn't it all valid even the briefness of a butterfly's life span?

point

I was offered an opportunity to earn a little easy money today. It challenged me a lot. That on the back of reading Vassily Grossman's 'The Road' about WW2 experiences, 'The Auschwitz Violin' by Maria Angels Anglada and 'Tescoply' by Andrew Simms. Maybe someone's easy money comes at the expense of someone else. Integrity is hard to maintain. Listening to one set of people may make us deaf to others.

And is my artwork in danger of that? Sand figures have a curious life. They thud and lay where they land; they split and leak momentarily; when permission to touch them is granted, they engender love and attention. What will they evoke when they point out, point to and designate the precious?

live art and social issues

I had a very interesting day yesterday; it left me with lots to review in my own practice. How can a roomful of artist go along with the rules of a game without any question when one of our biggest assets is the ability to question and point out?

Portraiture

The face is more than surface recognisability. It holds a lifetime of emotions, adventures and movements.
